Two theories that I think I most relate to are Essentialism and Perrenialism.
In Essentialism, the teacher is the authority figure who imparts knowledge to his or her students, and I agree with that view. While I think that teachers are also guides and encouragers, I believe it is important for one person to be in charge in the classroom, and that person should be the teacher. Essentialsm also holds to the belief that students need to have basic skills and a core body of knowledge so that they will be able to fuction and contribute to society. I also agree with this. Students should know basic knowledge so that they can build upon that knowledge and use it to work and be a good citizen in their future vocation.
As far as Perrenialism goes, I agree with the belief that students should learn how think for themselves and be developing their minds. Perrenialism holds to the belief that great works from the past should be taught, and I think that's very important as someone who loves classic novels and different types of literature. I also can see the importance of a liberal education, because as I mentioned earlier, I think it's important for students to have a core body of knowledge to build upon, and they would get that with a liberal education.
